Prepare breeding grounds for the pigeons in the garden in summer. The birds will thank you.

The population of lovebirds has not only decreased drastically in Austria in recent years (news reported in the previous week). That is why the Austrian bird protection organization Birdlife has now named Streptopelia turtur, as the ornithologists call the graceful animals of the air, “Bird of the Year”. This signals that they need special protection, and that is urgently needed. Because in ten countries of the EU the hunt for these messengers of heaven is allowed. Birdlife estimates that 2.2 million people are killed in Europe each year. Only 4.2 million pairs are counted on the continent during the breeding season, which is 79 percent fewer than 20 years ago. But that’s not all.

Lovebirds are the only long-distance migratory birds in Europe. They spend the winter months mainly in the Sahel zone. On their way to warmer climes, these animals are exposed to great dangers. Every year up to 25 million birds perish on the journey. The fact that they hold records on their journey – a turtle dove reaches a speed of 60 kilometers per hour in flight and can travel 700 kilometers without a break – does not protect them from human attackers.

One of the strongest hunting areas is Greece. Up to 70,000 birds are killed in one season in the Ionian Islands. Together with HOS, its Greek partner organization, Birdlife has now developed a protection program (information: www.birdlife.at).

Each of us can help too. Prepare breeding grounds for the pigeons in the garden in summer. The birds will thank you.

The British police arrested two more people on Friday during the murder investigation into the find of 39 bodies in a semi-trailer near London.

They are a 38 year old man and a woman of the same age. They were accused of human trafficking in 39 cases and manslaughter in 39 cases, the police said on Friday.

Driver suspected of murder

The previously arrested Northern Ireland resident driver of the truck in which the bodies were found remains suspected of murder and remains in custody, police said. The detention order against him was extended on Thursday. Online petitions were circulating on the Internet demanding his release.

At first it remained unclear whether he or someone else had informed the police and what he knew about the contents of the trailer. The tractor had come from Ireland and the trailer came to Purfleet via the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. The tractor then transported him to an industrial area in Grays. When and where people got into the truck is currently completely unclear.

Corpses are autopsied

All 39 bodies found in the truck trailer will be autopsied at a Chelmsford hospital. The first eleven dead were brought to the facility on Thursday evening – accompanied by a police escort. The autopsies should begin on Friday.

The victims, 31 men and eight women, come from China, according to British police. Experts expect very long investigations after the gruesome find. The formal identification will follow the autopsies, the police said on Friday. “This will be a long but crucial part of this investigation,” “it said. The Belgian authorities are also investigating.

Victims may have frozen to death

The bodies were discovered on Wednesday night in the back of the truck in the village of Grays, east of London. The circumstances strongly suggest that the victims are migrants smuggled into the country. The people in the hold may have frozen to death because the large truck semitrailer is suitable for cooling. Initially, the cause of death was not officially confirmed.

The semi-trailer came from Belgium by ship and reached the English port of Purfleet on Wednesday night. The head of the port in Zeebrugge, Joachim Coens, told the Belgian television broadcaster VRT that it was “” highly unlikely “” that people in Belgium had climbed into the trailer. “” A refrigerated container arrives here completely sealed. During the inspection, the seal is checked and also the license plate and the driver are checked with cameras, “” said Coens. Then the freight will be loaded onto a ship.

She lives with her husband and dog on the edge of a nature reserve on the Lower Rhine. Dolly Buster, real name Nora Baumberger, will be 50 years old on October 23rd. There is no party. She disappeared from the public eye for two years. The reason is her poor health.

“” I have suffered from tinnitus and severe pain for two years. And it’s getting worse and worse. “” That is the reason why she has been avoiding stress for two years, rejecting all inquiries and invitations, no longer painting and no longer writing. That’s why she won’t celebrate her milestone birthday. Instead, she will travel to warmer climes.

A few months ago she was even in the Betty Ford Clinic in Bad Brückenau because the constant use of painkillers had created addiction. “” That was great, “” she says – but the cause of her complaints was not found there either. Tinnitus, a constant noise in the ear, is a diabolical disease. “” The frequency changes constantly with me, that’s really bad, I can’t get used to it either. “”

Dolly, the jack of all trades

Actress, author, TV celebrity, painter: Buster was always a jack of all trades, a doer who also implemented her many ideas. But she can no longer do that at the moment. “” I also have no more hope that it will get any better. I have to be realistic. It’s getting worse and worse. “” Two restaurants in Düsseldorf and Frankfurt (“” Buster Pasta “”) are named after her. She is there every now and then, has a regular place in Düsseldorf.

Dolly Buster was born in Prague. At the age of 14 she came to Germany with her parents. Her first job was with the Federal Border Police: “” I was an emergency interpreter at Frankfurt Airport for Russian, Czech and Polish at night. I got 60 deutschmarks an hour. That was a great hourly wage for a 16 year old, “” she says.

Greatest wish: health

In 1989 she met porn producer Dino Baumberger, whom she married in 1997. A year earlier, she had ended her career as an actress and switched to behind the camera. Then it appeared in TV formats like “” Peep! “”, “” Love Sin “” and “” True Love “”. She was briefly in the RTL jungle camp and even ran for the European Parliament in 2004.

She has lived in Wesel for almost 30 years: “” The next tree on my fence is already a nature reserve, “” she says. She is actually a big city person. “” For years I knew Düsseldorf Airport better than my street in Wesel. “” But now she is happy to live so quietly in nature. She only has one big wish for the future: to get healthy. “” I wish that so much that this ghost is over and that I can participate in life normally again. “”
